Light hike in Hólmavík

The hike to Kálfanesborgir above Hólmavík is quite short and easy. The hike starts at the camping ground and there is a trail that leads you to a small cairn on top of the hill. This cairn is called Háborgarvarða. From this spot you can enjoy the view over Steingrímsfjörður and Grímsey island. This spot is also perfect to take pictures or to rest a bit for the journey home. When you walk again into Hólmavík you can either go the same route, or you can make it a loop by walking towards the ocean on the other side until you reach the old mainroad. This road will then lead you towards the town again and you'll find your way.

Sandafell

Sandafell is a small mountain above (367 m) the village Þingeyri by Dýrafjörður. You can walk up to the fell from Þingeyri or from the main road just above the village. At the top of Sandafell, there is an observation deck with the main landmarks that stand out to the eye and from which there is a unique view. Elevation is about 170 m and the trail from the old highway is about 3 km both ways. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The view is going to be well worth the effort.

Ísafjörður

In Tunguskógur, there are good footpaths, beautiful clearings, and in the fall you’ll find plenty of berries and mushrooms. Additionally, visitors can enjoy attractions such as the quaint park, Simsongarður, and the enchanting Bunárfoss waterfall.
