OPENING: INTERMISSION

Logi Leó Gunnarsson and Una Björg Magnúsdóttir

July 18 – August 15, 2025
Bryggjusalur exhibition hall, Edinborgarhúsið Cultural Centre of the Westfjords, Aðalstræti 7, 400 Ísafjörður

On Friday, July 18 at 5:00 PM, the exhibition Milli þátta // Intermission by artists Logi Leó Gunnarsson and Una Björg Magnúsdóttir opens at Gallery Slunkaríki in the Edinborg House.

The exhibition is part of Slunkaríki's anniversary celebration, marking 40 years since the Ísafjörður Art Society established the gallery. For many years, Slunkaríki was located at Aðalstræti 22 (now home to Gallery Úthverfa), but moved to the Edinborgarhúsið when it opened in 2007.

To commemorate this 40-year history, Slunkaríki and Úthverfa have organized a varied program throughout the anniversary year. Alongside the opening at Edinborgarhúsið on July 18, there will also be an opening at Úthverfa.
Gallery Slunkaríki has always emphasized contemporary art, and it felt fitting to invite two young artists to exhibit in celebration of the anniversary.

The exhibition features a wide range of works by Logi and Una, including found paper works, metal sculptures, stagnant shadows, and repeated environmental sounds.

Logi Leó Gunnarsson and Una Björg Magnúsdóttir have worked in parallel on their art for the past ten years, exhibited simultaneously, but never intentionally together. This is their first joint exhibition.

Logi Leó Gunnarsson (b. 1990) graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Iceland University of the Arts in the spring of 2014. His work often begins with sound. He frequently explores the idea of a moment in his sculptures and installations—isolating a loop in motion, focusing undivided attention on it, and discovering the unexpected and the simple within. Recently, he has participated in exhibitions at the Living Art Museum (2024), the Reykjavík Art Museum (2023), ARS LONGA Contemporary Art Museum in Djúpivogur (2022), Y Gallery in Kópavogur (2022), and One Minute Space in Athens (2021). He lives and works in Reykjavík.

Una Björg Magnúsdóttir (b. 1990) uses various methods in her works to raise questions about beauty, value, existence, behavior, and conduct. She employs texture and symbolically charged materials in a clever yet restrained manner. Through precise arrangements of modest objects, her works create a certain surface illusion where everything appears orderly. Yet the pieces engage in a courteous deception, dancing on the ambiguous boundary between the real and the imitation. Una studied fine art at the Iceland University of the Arts and completed her postgraduate studies at ÉCAL in Switzerland, graduating in 2018. She lives and works in Reykjavík. Her work has been shown at the Reykjavík Art Museum, Gerðarsafn, Y Gallery, Ásmundarsalur, KEIV in Athens, GES-2 in Moscow, and Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.
