Location

The longest race starts at the community center in Árnes in Trékyllisvík. The second-longest race starts at Hótel Djúpavík in Reykjarfjörður, and the third starts on Bjarnarfjarðarháls ridge between Steingrímsfjörður and Bjarnarfjörður. The junior race starts at the abandoned farm Bólstaður in Selárdalur.

Shuttle buses will run from the ski lodge to the starting points of all races, and, as mentioned earlier, all races finish at the ski lodge.


Transportation

Shuttle transport is offered on race morning from the finish area in Selárdalur to all starting points. The fare is ISK 7,000 per person to Trékyllisvík, ISK 5,000 per person to Djúpavík, and ISK 2,000 per person to Bjarnarfjarðarháls. Transport to the junior race start is included in the entry fee.

The same refund policy applies to transport fares as to race entry fees (see below). Those who decline transport during registration can still book a seat by emailing Skidafelagstrandamanna@gmail.com no later than July 31, 2026. However, seat availability cannot be guaranteed at that time.


Race Day Schedule

  • 07:30 – Bus departs from the ski lodge in Selárdalur to Trékyllisvík
  • 10:00 – 48 km start at Árnes community center
  • 10:00 – Bus departs from Selárdalur to Djúpavík
  • 12:00 – 26 km start at Hótel Djúpavík
  • 12:15 – Bus departs from Selárdalur to Bjarnarfjarðarháls
  • 13:00 – 16.5 km start at Bjarnarfjarðarháls
  • 13:40 – Bus departs from Selárdalur to Bólstaður
  • 14:00 – 3.7 km junior race start at Bólstaður
  • 14:00 – Expected arrival of first finishers
  • 15:30 – Prize ceremony in Selárdalur (or when the top three have finished)
  • 18:00 – Finish line closes

Race Packet Pickup

Race materials will be distributed at the sports center in Hólmavík on Friday, August 14, from 18:00–21:00. Participants are strongly encouraged to collect their materials then.

Uncollected race packets will be available at the ski lodge, on buses to the start, and at the starting areas.


Cut-Off Times

  • Ultra (48 km): 8 hours
  • Midi (26 km): 5 hours 40 minutes (Þórbergur’s time)
  • Mini (16.5 km): 4 hours

Aid Stations

There will be four aid stations on the longest route, two on the Djúpavík route, and one on the 16.5 km route. Refreshments will also be available at the finish.

Aid stations will be located:

  • Northwest of Mt. Glissa (after ~13 km)
  • At Lake Búrfellsvatn (after ~26 km)
  • At Goðdalsá river (after ~34/11 km)
  • At the junction on Bjarnarfjarðarháls (after ~40/17/8.5 km)

At minimum, water and sports drinks will be available. No disposable cups will be provided, so runners must bring reusable cups.


Course Marking and Safety

The route is mostly easy to follow, as it runs along jeep tracks and well-worn trails. Additional markings will be placed where needed. Course marshals will be stationed at key points, including:

  • Junction north of Mela
  • Junction at Eyrarháls
  • Turnoff toward Bjarnarfjarðarháls
  • Ridge above Bólstaður
  • Geirmundarstaðavegur road

Assistance will be available at river crossings at Goðdalsá and Selá, both of which can carry significant water flow. A rope will be stretched across the Selá river.


Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories.

  • The 48 km race awards 2 ITRA points
  • The 26 km race awards 1 ITRA point
  • All three longer races provide ITRA performance scores
