Short film + director Q&A on abandoned road Óshlíð

Price description

Donations welcome. DVDs for sale 2000kr. Cash only.

This film takes us on a journey along Óshlíð - an abandoned coastal road considered to be one of the most dangerous, and beautiful, in Iceland. Following its replacement by a mountain tunnel in 2010, the road was closed and is now being reclaimed by the mountain and the sea. The film journeys into the stories of Óshlíð and its relationships with the people who maintained, travelled and died upon it. Through these voices it reflects upon the nature of mortality and inhabits a landscape where humans are not the main characters.

The title embodies the topographical and compound nature of this film: Óshlíð is an Icelandic word comprised of ós (river mouth) and hlíð (slope). Óshlíð is both the name of the road, and the place - from which it came and to which it will return.

Running time 30 min
Language: English and Icelandic with English subtitles

All welcome to the unveiling of this film in its first community screening, back on the road where it was made (the road that follows the coast between Hnífsdalur and Bolungarvík).
