Ferocious Glitter II is a series of five two-week exhibitions at Gallerí Úthverfa / Outvert Art Space in Ísafjörður. The first part of the exhibition was in the summer of 2019.  The artists chosen for 2019 and 2020 all have some connections to the town and its cultural history.  The curator is Gavin Morrison.

The exhibition is sixth in the row in the Ferocious Glitter series and the first in this year´s part of the series. On display are drawings, photographs, a model and a video conversation with Einar Thorsteinn by Trausti Valsson.  Collaborative partners: Hönnunarsafn Íslands (Museum of Design and Applied Art).

Einar Þorsteinn (1942-2015) was an Icelandic architect who pioneered the use of polyhedral geometric structures, influenced by the likes of Buckminster Fuller and Frei Otto, who he also worked for from 1969 to 1972. He also collaborated extensively with the artist Olafur Eliasson as well as workingin with Guillermo Trotti on designs for mobile lunar research laboratories for NASA.

His interest in domed structures led to him building a number of homes in Iceland using this method. In 1986 he built a home for Ásthildur Þórðardóttir and Elías Skaptason in Ísafjörður in which half the house is a wild indoor garden. This exhibition uses photographs from that house as well as archive materials (drawings and models) borrowed from Hönnunarsafn Íslands which present the theoretical background to the house in Ísafjörður.

Posters and 3D models are on sale at the Outvert Art Books store.
