Hiking Trails

From Tálknafjörður there are walking trails going in almost all directions.

If the plan is to walk to Bíldudalur then there are two ways to choose from. It's either the main road over Hálfdán, but there is another route going over Tunguheiði.

To get to Barðaströnd you would choose Miðvörðuheiði, but the you come down in Birkimelur, Barðaströnd.

There are three ways to choose from if the plan is to get to Patreksfjörður. firstly there is the mainroad over Miklidalur, secondly there is Lambeyrarháls and thirdly the route over Stórhæð through Rangárgil.

There are also known walking trails over to Ketildalir. Firstly there is Hringdalsskarð, secondly there is Selárdalsheiði and thirdly there is Hólaskarð.

This list is only to give you an example of where you can walk. The list is based on known hiking trails that were used in times past to get between places. You can get more information about hiking trails in the Tourist Information Office. The Tourism Association of the Westfjords has made a hiking trail map which we advise tourists to get. They are sold in the nearest Tourist Information Office.
